Main purpose of role
The Requirements Analyst is the person who has the primary responsibility to elicit, analyse, specify, validate and document the requirements of the customer and business.
The Requirements Analyst acts as a conduit between the key stakeholders and development team through which requirements flow.
The Requirements Analyst may be involved through the entire development life cycle, from establishing the requirement baseline, through management of these requirements during implementation and managing any subsequent requirement change appropriately.
This role is intended to develop as the business grows and the successful applicant will have the potential to initiate change and to lead the definition through implementation of future processes within the organisation.
Main functions and responsibilities
The successful applicant will possess the skills necessary to:
Elicit requirements and write specifications using natural language assisted by formal specification tools, simply, clearly unambiguously and concisely.
Identify key stakeholders and users and document their use cases and interactions and workflows.
Decompose high-level business and user requirements into product functional requirements at an appropriate level of detail, suitable for use by the software development and validation teams.
Define quality and performance expectations, external interfaces constraints and other non-functional requirements.
Represent requirements using alternative views such as diagrams, prototypes and scenarios, where appropriate.
Lead requirements analysis and verification, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, feasible, unambiguous and verifiable.
Participate in requirement prioritisation.
Participate in peer reviews and inspection of requirements documents.
Participate in peer reviews of products derived from requirements to ensure that the requirements were interpreted correctly.
Manage requirements traceability and track requirements status throughout the lifecycle.
Manage changes to requirements through effective application of processes and tools.
Establish and implement effective requirement practices including the use of continual improvement of the requirements process. Assist in the development of requirements policies, procedures and tools.
Operating the Requirements Process including producing management reports and KPIs.
Assist product management in product planning through requirements development and analysis.
Propose new product features and updates where necessary.
Contacts, internal and external
Internal:
VP Engineering, CTO, Product Management, Development team, Validation and QA, Customer service.
External:
Customers, Strategic Partners, System Integrators, Value Added Resellers.
Qualifications, knowledge, experience
Essential:
A formal recognised qualification in Computing or Electronic Engineering at Degree level.
First-rate communication skills along with a systematic & methodical approach to their work.
Strong writing skills to communicate information effectively to customers, product management and engineering.
Strong understanding of requirements elicitation, analysis, specification and management techniques, and the ability to apply these in practice.
Experience in managing requirements through the software development process in a team environment.
Interpersonal skills, to help negotiate priorities, and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders, such as customers, product management and engineering.
Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred:
A good understanding of the requirements and principles of Service Oriented Architectures.
An excellent familiarity of systems deployed with Windows operating systems.
A good understanding of formal specification languages such as UML.
Experience of file based video/audio workflows and formats.
Experience of digital and analogue video/audio technologies and World-wide TV standards.
Experience of the Ingest & Post Production environment.
Experience of broadcast Workflow requirements.
Additional information
This role may require occasional international travel and regional trips.
Performance standards
Achieve mutually agreed objectives, standards and dates.
Initial performance review conducted after 3 month probationary period with follow-up performance review after 6 months.
Performance reviews will be conducted on an annual basis in addition to interim progress reviews.
